Join clinical psychologist and expert mindfulness and compassion teacher Kathleen Cator as we explore how cultivating skills in self-compassion can help us experience a sense of safety, calm and acceptance of ourselves and others.
Cultivating self-compassion in a competitive world can be a difficult task. While our high standards for ourselves may stem from the desire to continually improve and be the best we can, when we fall short of our own expectations we judge ourselves; interpreting our feelings as signs that we are less capable or worthy than other people. There is a growing body of research that highlights the importance of including yourself in your circle of kindness and compassion. This research shows that people with higher levels of self-compassion will experience greater physical and mental health and more satisfaction in their relationships.
In this 3-hour workshop we will be guided through a series of exercises and discussions designed to cultivate self-compassion. These include experiential activities such as guided meditation practices, facilitated enquiry based discussion and reflective written exercises. We will draw on leading ideas from psychology, neuroscience and philosophy and leave with a range of practical skills to continue to develop our self-compassion.
In this 3-hour workshop you will learn:
Discover biases and fears about self-compassion;
Understand how self-compassion enhances wellbeing and personal effectiveness;
Explore and learn how to better manage difficult emotions;
Practice the art of gratitude and self-appreciation;
Integrate practical, simple self-compassion skills into daily life.
No prior experience in mindfulness meditation is required.

Kathleen Cator is a Clinical Psychologist and Certified Mindful Self-Compassion Teacher. A warm and authentic teacher, facilitator, and therapist, Kathleen specializes in the contemplative and scientifically based techniques of mindfulness and compassion. Kathleen founded her own private practice, Metta Health & Psychology, and is dedicated to teaching and helping people live their lives filled with joy, meaning and purpose.
